WesPark Fishing Charters

Well not really.....but maybe, one day! For now using this blog for anyone who plans to come out for a day on the water to do some offshore fishing. Here is quick guide for what you need to know.


First Timers

  • Get your CA Fishing License through the following link: CLICK HERE

Dock Locations

  • Marina Cortez: 1880 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92101

  • Cabrillo: 1450 Harbor Island Dr, San Diego, CA 92101


Boats

  • We are usually on a 23ft Center Console or a 25ft Pilot House


What to Bring

  • Food and Drinks: lunch, snacks, beverages to get you through a full day (up to 8hrs on the water)

  • Dramamine (if you get sick on small boats going fast)

  • Your passport (we will be in MX waters fishing at some point during the day)


Destinations

  • In and around the Coronado Islands

  • 302 Fathom Spot (Kidney Bank#2)

  • San Salvador Knoll: Latitude 32° 18' 0" N (32.3°), Longitude 117° 54' 0" W (-117.9°)


Costs

  • Gas - we usually burn $150-$250 in a full day going out

  • Live bait - $50

  • Ice (for boat) - $50

  • Licenses (good for the year):  $100 total

  • Fish processing (if we catch anything):  $1.75/lb or we can process ourselves


Tackle for California Yellowtail

  • Rods: 7- to 8-foot conventional rods rated for 25- to 40-pound line

  • Reels: Two-speed lever-drag matched to rod

  • Line: 50- to 65-pound braid

  • Rigs: Rigs: Top shot of 25- to 40-pound fluorocarbon tied straight to the hook for fly-lining live baits; Carolina-style rig with 3 feet of 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and an egg sinker above a barrel swivel; dropper-loop rig on 30- to 40-pound fluorocarbon with an 18-inch dropper for the hook created with a spider hitch, and a 3-foot tag end to attach a 6- to 12-ounce bank sinker.

  • Hooks: 3/0 to 4/0 Owner Gorilla Light hooks

 

Best chances to catch fish if we

  • Meet at the dock at 5:45am

  • Leave dock no later than 6am

  • We can obviously go out later and come in whenever we want to call it quits
